Today

Even though Ernst Mayr died not very many years ago scientific theories are always changing. Today his theories were never proven wrong, only expanded upon. Mayr's theories and publishings are studied today when learning the process of evolution and all the details that go along with it. He is one of the big names in evolution and will always remain that way. You cant study evolution without reading his publications, contributions, and findings.

Impact

Many credit Mayr with creating evolutionary biology. His work on birds led him to advancing speciation. He was also very critical of many scientific theories on evolution and had his own ideas on what was correct. He recorded all of his criticisms. He perfected and corrected many of the already standing theories on all sorts of evolution.

Findings, Publications, Contributions

He contributed to the conceptual revolution that led to the modern evolutionary synthesis of Mendelian genetics, systematics, and Darwinian evolution, and to the development of the biological species concept.

He published a book titled Systematics and the Origin of Species. Nobody really knew the explanation of evolution in his time but he came up with an explanation and is written in his book. He explained that a species can evolve by mating in their own species, by being isolated and over time different genes will form and start evolution with that species. That was his theory on how an animal can evolve from its same ancestors without mingling with other species.

Ernst Mayr was born on the fifth of July, 1904 in Kempten, Germany and died on the third of February, 2005 at an age of 100 years old in Bedford, Massachusetts, United States. He went back and forth from Germany to the United States but his residency was in the United States
